Tom Ross Wins SCG Open on Technicality

Pro Tour-Honolulu Top 8 member Tom "The Boss" Ross managed to take down the title of StarCityGames.com Legacy Open in Dallas, and he did so in surprising fashion. After splitting the first two games with Zoo against opponent James Palaima's 43 Land deck, Ross was locked out of the third game and almost certainly headed towards defeat. Then Palaima attacked with Glacial Chasm on the table, a game rules violation and his third such ding in the tournament. That meant the penalty was upgraded to a game loss, and Ross found himself an accidental champion.

Of course, it was all mostly moot. The Top 4 had split the remaining cash in the event, each taking home $825, which meant Palaima and Ross were playing for StarCity Invitational points and a championships trophy.
