The largest tournament ever held in Texas has come to an end! Nearly 1,200 players used the Standard format at Grand Prix Dallas/Fort Worth, and the big question headed into the weekend was whether or not Caw-Blade would continue its dominance over the Standard format. Early on in the tournament a number of innovative decks lurked at the top tables, including a Boros build championed by the ChannelFireball crew, but when the dust settled the Top 8 was a two deck show: four players brought RUG and four players brought Caw-Blade.
Despite a number of big name players making the cut to the single elimination rounds (Josh Utter-Leyton, Owen Turtenwald, Michael Jacob), it was two rookies who battled for the title. Orrin Beasley (RUG) fell to David Shiels( Caw-Blade) to award the Caw-Blade player the honor of becoming Grand Prix Dallas/Fort Worth champion. The winning decklist:
David Shiels - Top 8
4 Island
4 Plains
2 Condemn
Sideboard:
1 Condemn
1 Deprive
2 Volition Reins
