A convention put on by Wizards of the Coast competitor Cryptozoic Games this weekend in Chicago will actually supplement a host of World of Warcraft offerings with actual Magic tournaments. Epic Game Con Chicago doesn't require a game badge to get in the door, and its main attraction is a Dark Moon Faire, akin to a Grand Prix or mini-Nationals for World of Warcraft TCG players. In addition to the main event, there will be a host of Magic offerings as well put on by Pastimes (read Pastimes president Alan Hochman's Top 10 reasons to attend Grand Prix Dallas).
The headliner Magic event is a Midwest Masters Series Regional. Open to all players, the Top 8 will receive invitations to the $10,000 championships at Gen Con as well as a badges for entry into Gen Con. Players who do well can also receive points towards qualifying for the TCGPlayer.com Wizards World Series (read about the MMS/TCGPlayer partnership). Throughout the weekend players can also play trials to earn byes at future MMS qualifier events.
In addition to the MMS Regional event a Pro Tour Qualifier for Nagoya is being held on Sunday. A smattering of "usual" Magic offerings are also on hand including Friday Night Magic, Mini-Master, Commander (EDH), drafts, and win-a-box tournaments.

Epic Con Chicago starts Friday, April 1 and runs through Sunday, April 3.
