Former "Star Trek: The Next Generation" star and professional geek Wil Wheaton announced on his blog Tuesday that he would be attending Gen Con and looking to get his game on. One game he wanted to make sure he played? Magic: The Gathering of course. He listed the world's oldest TCG amongst approximately a half dozen games. Wheaton will also lead a panel entitled "I'm Wil Wheaton, and I'm a Gamer."
The actor is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Wesley Crusher on the 90's Star Trek run, but since that time he has carved a sizable niche of his own in the geekertainment media industry. He is a regular guest on panels across the country, and has even spoiled exclusive Magic cards for new set releases in the past. In addition to announcing he'd be looking to play Magic at the event, he also offered up this warning to fans: "Oh, this is really important: I got the Swine Flu at PAX Prime, and it was the worst two weeks of my life. When we went to PAX East, all of us (Jerry, Mike, Kurtz, Straub, Paul and Storm, The Professor and Mary Ann) all agreed that we wouldn't shake hands, give hugs, or engage in human contact with people, to limit the introduction of infection vectors."
So if you're playing Magic at Gen Con, keep an eye out for celebrity sightings (but don't get TOO close).
