Jared Sylva announced Friday changes coming to the StarCityGames.com Open, and they were all positives. The event series, a first-of-its-kind large cash event with a Player of the Year race and $50,000 championship in December run outside the purvey of Wizards of the Coast, has been a massive success judging by overall attendance at each event. Accordingly, StarCityGames.com has announced they will be spreading the love despite already having changed the structure of the events in favor of the players once this season already. Here are some of the changes Sylva detailed:

-Free Friday Night Magic to be held at each event with a pre-registration for either Saturday or Sunday play

-More side events, including Legacy and Standard Challenges held on opposite days of play (Legacy Challenge during the Standard Open and vice versa)

-An increase to the prize pool including payouts all the way down to 32nd place and on-site cash payouts for all finishers outside the Top 8

In addition to those changes, the format for the Invitational, to be held in December, has also been announced. That event will feature two days of Standard competition with all 6-2-0 or top 64 players (whichever number is greater) advancing to day 2, which then culminates in the Top 8.
