A writer who claims to have worked in Wizards R&D has published an article on why Magic doesn't have a Massively Multiplayer Online game (MMO) similar to World of Warcraft or EVE Online. Writing for MMORPG.com, Justin Webb analyzes the elements MMOs owe to Magic. He also discusses why such an offering hasn't been released:

"My guess is that Wizards thinks that the Magic experience doesn’t quite fit into the currently expected MMO mold – it’s not “WoW shaped”. And that Wizards would rather not make a Magic MMO at all than risk getting it wrong."

He also analyzes how games like Guild Wars have been using a model Magic could essentially copy, while also comparing pseudo-forays into the MMO world from Wizards via games like Shandalar and Magic Online.
