A TheStarkingtonPost.com follower on Twitter pointed out Thursday that former Pro Tour champion Remi Fortier of France has been handed a one year ban by the DCI for "match fraud." O. Flores, elzahori on Twitter, notified TheStarkingtonPost.com of the development. It's unclear at this time what the specifics behind the banning are, though "fraud" is defined by the official Magic: The Gathering Infraction Procedure Guide as follows:
"A person intentionally and knowingly violates or misrepresents rules, procedures, personal information, or any other relevant tournament information. Note that Fraud, like most cheating, is determined by an investigation and will often appear on the surface as a Game Play Error or Tournament Error."
Fortier burst onto the Pro Tour scene at Pro Tour-Valencia in 2007 where he won the event outright. The young player caught the Magic playing world by surprise, taking down a number of big names to make it through in the Top 8. The Valencia Pro Tour was also famous for a flood that forced the cancellation of its first day of competition after inundating the convention hall with water. (Read official coverage of that event on DailyMTG.com here.)
The full list of banned players can be found on the DCI page located here.
