Wizards of the Coast announced Wednesday the schedule for the 2011 Pro Tour season. In addition to the announcement, they also detailed some changes coming to the Pro Tour. The events are now being referred to as "Magic Weekend," with the Pro Tour being a major, but not primary, draw. And in a Pro Tour first in recent memory, the lead off Pro Tour of the new season will ALSO include a Grand Prix! The event schedule for 2011:
February 10-13
Paris
June 10-12
Nagoya
September 2-4
Philadelphia
November 17-20
San Francisco
Other interesting tidbits: Pro Tour 1, in Paris, will conflict with the Magic Cruise hosted by Legion Events meaning players trying to attend one won't be able to attend the other (read more on the cruise here). The announcement of Paris as the inaugural stop for the Pro Tour contradicts earlier suspicions it would be held in Honolulu after speculation resulting from a public posting by a convention center on the island (read that story here). Previous events in Paris have hosted thousands of players over the course of a weekend, with this year's first Pro Tour stop threatening to be one of the largest collections of Magic players of all time. Worlds is being help exceptionally early in 2011, finishing before the American Thanksgiving. In most years it is held in early to mid December.
