UPDATE: On Twitter Thursday Mark Rosewater confirmed the new mechanic would be in Scars of Mirrodin.

A curious looking bonus was tacked on to the bottom of articles appearing on the DailyMTG.com Magic magazine Thursday, the official digital Magic magazine of Wizards of the Coast. At the bottom of the Arcana and articles was this curious object:

At first glance it's simply an oddball graphic added to the articles for who knows why by the DailyMTG.com gremlins. But by clicking on the link repeatedly, it revealed itself as having far more importance than it seemed at first glance:

By clicking enough times the die flipped over to this view, revealing what appears to be an as-yet unseen keyword mechanic, Infect. The new ability is similar to Wither save for one key feature: creatures deal damage to players in the form of poison. Poison? The age old mechanic, the game's first alternative win condition, has not been a major player throughout the course of the game's history. But could this Easter egg be indicating we are to be seeing more of it in the near future?

No frame of reference for the ability is given. Is it going to be released in Scars of Mirrodin? Will it be included in some other product that is, as of yet, unnamed? Or is Wizards planning something different entirely? That remains to be seen, but this much is sure: random graphics inserted into articles on DailyMTG.com will certainly be going through more scrutiny henceforth.
