We recently reported on changes to Magic from the latest rules update for Magic 2011. Now StarCityGames.com writer and high ranking judge James Elliott has written further on the subject in order to help highlight changes to the Rules Enforcement Levels (REL) at major Magic events. From his article, published late Wednesday:
"Perhaps a more subtle change for players in the infractions guidelines is the streamlining of the penalties into a single rules enforcement level (REL). The reality is that even though we have been working with three in recent years, there was very little difference between competitive and professional in terms of the penalties for each infraction. The real divide has always been between competitive and regular, with regular being the most casual level, normally reserved for FNM and prereleases."
James also puts a call out for responses to a survey discussing changes that came about after the release of Magic 2010. Specifically, whether or not his readers prefer the world of modern Magic or the world of "damage on the stack" Magic.
