Magic 2011 brought a return to Magic of a popular cycle of cards that debuted in Guildpact: Leylines. The enchantments brought a first-of-its-kind ability to the game in being played before the game had even started.
Accordingly, for DailyMTG.com's theme week of "Opening Hand Week," it made sense that the cards would be front and center. But in Mark Rosewater's "Making Magic" column, he snuck in a reference to the possibility that more might be coming. In his latest article Rosewater asked readers how many cards have "opening hand" in their rules text. When clicking to read the answer on a special link, Rosewater closed with a hint about what's to come for the mechanic. From the article:
"If I asked this trivia question a year from now, what would the answer be?
Fifteen."
With a return of the Leyline cycle, speculation questions whether a third grouping is headed our way. Of course, Mark, a veteran of spoilers, gave an answer vague enough to leave doubt as to whether the Leylines were specifically the answer.
