A gaming store called the Magic Inferno has raised over $2,000 for the Make-a-Wish foundation. The store, based in Altamonte Springs, Florida, raised the cash by hosting a series of not-for-profit drafts on a special game day. The original goal was to run 12 drafts throughout the course of the day, but after just three hours the store had already reached its goal!
Gaming accessories giant Ultra Pro pitched in by donating dozens of bags of goodies to incentivize players to participate. The bags included dice, playmats, sleeves, deck boxes, bags, lanyards, and more. Corresponding with TheStarkingtonPost.com, Mark Marvin of the Magic Inferno described the details behind hosting the event. "We chose [to donate to] Make-a-Wish because I'm a volunteer with them. I've not had time lately to help, so I came up with the idea of a Draft Day, and it worked out great! My end game here is to have a Make-A-Wish Game Day Nationwide, like a typical Zendikar Game Day etc. with special foils and stuff. I can only hope this will show him what these players are capable of, and get some wheels turning so next year we are not running another one by ourselves."
All told nearly 100 players showed up to participate with the group from Magic Inferno donating two cases of Magic 2011 to the cause. The net result? The group raised $2,400 for the organization. A Facebook posting for the event featured numerous photos from the event, like this one:
