MTG Lifts Hasbro

Hasbro's second quarter earnings statements were released earlier this week. While the company did worse than anticipated, they credited Wizards of the Coast and Magic: The Gathering with performing more strongly than anticipated, a fact that helped cushion the blow of underperforming segments like Transformers.

 

Now an article from ICv2 analyzes Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner's take on the direction Wizards is headed. He even gives credit to the new direction for the company as being a big part of the strength behind the game's recent surge in popularity.

In 2008 Greg Leeds took the helm as CEO of Wizards of the Coast from Loren Greenwood. Since that time Magic has surge, having its best year ever in 2009 and seeing more players play sanctioned events that year than at any other time in history. Will 2010 continue that trend? Based on the statements released by Hasbro so far this year, that seems to be the case.
