Hobby and game magazine ICv2.com has released its latest issue of "Internal Correspondence." The quarterly survey of hobby stores across the United States paints a rosy picture of how the industry is doing in general, reporting hobby game growth to be trending upwards in the single digits. Magic specifically performed well in three different categories against competitors like Yugioh, Pokemon, and the World of Warcraft TCG. Here's how it finished the second quarter against its competitors:
-2nd in Top 5 Collectible Games Overall behind Yugioh
-2nd in Top 5 Mass Channel Collectible Games behind Yugioh again
-1st in Top 10 Hobby Collectible Games
Full details are available here from ICv2, and ICv2's annual report is readable here.
Magic is on an unprecedented streak of expansion that began in 2009 despite a series of layoffs and a slow economy worldwide. They continue to be credited with helping to support parent company Hasbro and have made that organization a top stock pick amongst many news outlets (read about Hasbro's CEO crediting Wizards and Magic for strong growth in its latest earnings call here). For now it looks like Magic's expansion continues to grow strong.
