The Mirrodin Besieged Prerelease brought out Phyrexians and Mirrans alike, and apparently a number of Magic fans who also happen to have a knack for baking! Two stories have come across TheStarkingtonPost news desk featuring Mirrodin themed confections from the latest set's Prerelease this past weekend. Check them out!
First up are the Mirran and Phyrexian cookies from the Prerelease at Castle House Games in Arkansas.

Those were no doubt the most popular poison counters in the building that day! You can check out Castle House here.
The second treat comes to us via email, and stars arguably the awesomest cake we've featured on our pages here at the Post. It came from the creative genius of Kelly Newell, and we got in touch to ask all about it. Here's the cake in question, from both views so you can see it in full detail:

Here's what Kelly had to say about the process behind making the cake:
"I've been playing Magic: The Gathering with my partner at Eclectic Games in Reading since Christmas; the people we've met there have been so friendly and helpful - especially by explaining extra rules and sometimes even passing on their spare cards! When the Prerelease was coming up I wanted to do something nice for everyone to share. I have been baking and decorating cakes for about five months now and thought it was an ideal thing to bring along!
The cake was a madiera sponge covered with regal icing. I wanted the design to represent the battle of the two sides, so I used the yin yang theme to separate the two halves and have each side's slogan/logo piped on. I did the cake over two evenings and it took about six hours in total to do - from mixing to final touches. The reaction was overwhelming! I had wanted to spend longer on the cake but I was called in to work on Friday, so I thought I could have done better haha! It turned out that we had a maxed out Prerelease (before I thought around 25 would show up but there were 50!) and everyone said that it was impressive and thoughtful of me to do the cake. I heard lots of 'awesomes' and 'no ways!'. I had a grin stuck on my face for the rest of the day - despite only winning one match!
I went home with a big head :D and an extra big grin as I had pulled a Blightsteel Colossus from my booster for taking part. Next Prerelease I'm hoping to have time to make a more ambitious cake!"
More ambitious than that? We can't wait to see what Kelly cooks up...
