Ever wonder what it takes to make it as a Magic artist? Mark Zug, who has given life to cards like Darigaaz, the Igniter, Doran, the Siege Tower, Chalice of the Void, and dozens more, has written a guest spot for the blog ArtOrder.com on exactly that subject. The blog is run by Jon Schindehette who is a senior art director for Wizards of the Coast.

Zug's work for Magic is quite extensive (see a full list of the cards he's done here) but art didn't always come easy to the artist. He describes being told early on that his work didn't pass muster, forcing him to work harder to improve. The move paid off, sending him on a journey of creation that eventually took him to the doorsteps of none other than Wizards of the Coast and Magic.
