Grand Prix Columbus Underway

Grand Prix-Columbus is underway and over 1,000 players are in attendance to determine who will be its champion! While only a bit more than half the number of the Legacy Grand Prix held earlier this year in Europe, becoming the largest Magic event ever held, Columbus marks at least the second time a Grand Prix in the United States has been large enough to be split into two flights. The flights, blue and green, will be combined for the second day of competition on Sunday.
Speculation on what the top decks will be have included discussion of Imperial Recruiter-based combo decks (read more here). The recent banning of Mystical Tutor forced many pros to set aside playing the format's most broken decks, strategies like Reanimator and ANT. The hunt for the next most broken combo deck seems to center around the Portal Three Kingdom rare, but with an entire weekend of Magic playing left to go, it remains to be seen what the breakout hit will be for the weekend.
