David Ochoa wrote an article this week about his time in San Diego. Alexander Shearer, a peer writer to David at ChannelFireball, offered up an analysis on a sticky situation that saw David make the Top 8 of a side event after his opponent mistakenly attempted to bribe him. The forum discussion on the article turned into a war between two factions: those who felt Ochoa intentionally tried to get his opponent to offer a bribe, and those who simply felt David followed the rules.
Alex, one of the game's smartest guys (and humorously an actual doctor with a Ph.D as opposed to his fellow CF columnist Chris "the Doctor" Lachmann), honestly lays out the situation: players with tournament knowledge and players with rules knowledge are two different things. Often at tournaments, random first time players may know the rules, but not how to interact at tournaments.
It's a great read, and you can find the article here on his blog GiftsUngiven.
