There are some SHOCKING decks that managed to find themselves in the Top 8 of the biggest and most important Extended tournaments over the past few weeks. Let's get started!

Kurtis Droge

6th Place - Michigan - Garden City - 1/23

4  Arid Mesa

3  Emeria, the Sky Ruin

2  Fetid Heath

3  Godless Shrine

4  Marsh Flats

9  Plains

1  Ghost-Lit Stalker

1  Kami of False Hope

4  Kitchen Finks

4  Martyr of Sands

2  Necrotic Sliver

3  Ranger of Eos

4  Castigate

2  Day of Judgment

2  Moonlight Bargain

3  Oblivion Ring

4  Path to Exile

4  Phyrexian Arena

1  Wrath of God

Sideboard:

2  Aven Mindcensor

1  Crovax, Ascendant Hero

2  Fulminator Mage

1  Identity Crisis

1  Persecute

3  Tidehollow Sculler

4  Tormod's Crypt

1  Wrath of God

Martyr saw play at the Pro Tour, but Kurtis Droge's version has a few cards that are unexpected. Moonlight Bargain, anyone? The deck does what it does, but as the season progresses, it has the potential to be a dark horse with a powerful end game that can ultimately leave you at an insurmountable amount of life with your opponent at zero permanents on the table.

John Wasson

1st Place - Ontario - Toronto - 1/16

16  Mountain

4  Teetering Peaks

4  Ball Lightning

4  Goblin Guide

4  Hellspark Elemental

4  Keldon Marauders

4  Mogg Fanatic

4  Flames of the Blood Hand

4  Lava Spike

4  Lightning Bolt

4  Magma Jet

4  Rift Bolt

Sideboard:

3  Blood Moon

4  Cryoclasm

3  Everlasting Torment

2  Pithing Needle

3  Smash to Smithereens

Surprisingly taking down 1st place in Toronto was a throwback RDW list. John Wasson got there with good ole' burn spells and aggressive creatures. Check out Hellspark and Goblin Guide with Teetering Peaks. This deck seems like it's stolen straight out of Standard, but hey, John has an envelope for the Pro Tour.

Charles Trottier

4th Place - Ontario - Toronto - 1/16

1  Arid Mesa

4  Island

2  Misty Rainforest

4  Mountain

4  Scalding Tarn

4  Steam Vents

4  Electrolyze

3  Grapeshot

4  Lightning Bolt

4  Magma Jet

4  Manamorphose

2  Muddle the Mixture

4  Ponder

4  Pyromancer Ascension

4  Remand

4  Rite of Flame

4  Serum Visions

Sideboard:

4  Blood Moon

3  Cryptic Command

3  Echoing Truth

3  Firespout

2  Repeal

Blue-Red Storm last season centered around Mind's Desire, but not anymore. Charles Trottier used a throwback storm list focused on Grapeshot and Pyromancer's Swath to earn a Top 8 slot. An interesting new option for the Extended world.

Patrizio Golia (7th Place)

Extended PTQ #904876 on 01/26/2010

1  Eiganjo Castle

3  Ghost Quarter

3  Horizon Canopy

14  Plains

4  Aven Mindcensor

4  Figure of Destiny

2  Hokori, Dust Drinker

2  Isamaru, Hound of Konda

2  Samurai of the Pale Curtain

3  Soltari Priest

4  Honor of the Pure

4  Mana Tithe

3  Oblivion Ring

4  Path to Exile

4  Spectral Procession

3  Umezawa's Jitte

Sideboard:

2  Brave the Elements

4  Ethersworn Canonist

4  Kataki, War's Wage

3  Runed Halo

2  Safe Passage

Of all the decks to make the cut this week, this one from Magic Online is the most unbelievable. White Weenie in Extended? Still, it made the Top 8 and it's not impossible to imagine why. You get great bear hate in the form of cards like Samurai of the Pale Curtain, Kataki, and Ethersworn Canonist (with Kor Firewalker to join as soon as Worldwake is legal). Mana Tithe is a fantastic dark horse for Extended; if you're the first player to use it in a season, you'll blow players out all day long.

Sergio_Dominaria (8th Place)

Extended PTQ #909670 on 01/31/2010

3  Drowned Catacomb

2  Glacial Fortress

2  Hallowed Fountain

5  Island

4  Marsh Flats

2  Misty Rainforest

3  Mystic Gate

1  Plains

1  Swamp

2  Watery Grave

1  Baneslayer Angel

1  Crovax, Ascendant Hero

3  Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir

4  Cryptic Command

2  Doom Blade

2  Engineered Explosives

4  Esper Charm

1  Extirpate

1  Logic Knot

4  Mana Leak

3  Mystical Teachings

2  Path to Exile

1  Repeal

4  Spell Snare

2  Think Twice

Sideboard:

1  Crovax, Ascendant Hero

2  Deathmark

1  Doom Blade

1  Engineered Explosives

1  Extirpate

1  Fracturing Gust

3  Kitchen Finks

1  Pact of Negation

1  Pulse of the Fields

1  Ravenous Trap

1  Shadow of Doubt

1  Vendilion Clique

This deck is hard to classify. I'd call it "Esper Control" in the traditional Weissman style; it's just good cards to control the game, then win with a traditional big threat. Baneslayer Angel is the perfect such threat, making up for lost (life) time while putting serious hurt on the opponent.

There you have it! A rogue's gallery from this week's data. Sound off in the forums with your thoughts.
