Jasar "Jay" Elarar has gone back-to-back in titles at the 2010 Canada National Championship. The long-time pro managed to repeat by winning the title outright, but his victory comes with baggage: while leading the Canadian National team at the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Elarar was disqualified from the event for cheating. That in turn DQ'ed his entire team, and Canada became one of three teams booted from the team competition at the World Championships (read more on the DQ from DailyMTG.com here). His victory means he has the opportunity to redeem himself in an attempt to captain the team to a title in 2010.

The deck he played for the Standard portion echoes in nature the lists used to dominate French Nationals with minor tweaks. Check out Jay's take on blue-white control:

Arid Mesa

Celestial Colonnade

Glacial Fortress

Island

Plains

Scalding Tarn

Sejiri Steppe

Tectonic Edge

Baneslayer Angel

Wall of Omens

Day of Judgment

Elspeth, Knight-Errant

Essence Scatter

Jace Beleren

Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Mana Leak

Negate

Oblivion Ring

Path to Exile

Spreading Seas

Sideboard:

Celestial Purge

Day of Judgment

Flashfreeze

Jace Beleren

Leyline of Sanctity

Negate

Sphinx of Jwar Isle

The verdict on the world of Magic 2010/Magic 2011 Standard seems to be clear: old fashioned blue-white control strategies are the real deal. Jay will be joined on the national team by Vincent Thibeault and Pascal Maynard.
