UPDATE: In a separate forum thread posted in lieu of the deleted article, Sacher apologized for the incident commenting on the offending paragraph by saying "The paragraph was admittedly poorly written, as that intention was not clear, so for that I apologize. But then that misunderstanding snowballed due to a series of mistakes, bad assumptions, and poor judgment on my part. When it was edited out, I assumed that the editor had misunderstood the paragraph, but also assumed that it was written properly without double checking. I felt that fighting to get it back in the main page was pointless, but the forums are far less traveled and much more free-form than a piece that I am getting paid to put on the front page. For these reasons, I posted the unedited version there, which I now see was a horrible mistake and I regret doing so." Follow the thread here.
The acerbic AJ Sacher's most recent article for StarCityGames.com may have gotten him into trouble with his employer. In the article he discussed his recent trip to the Vintage Championships at Gen Con. In a portion of the piece edited out of the published article, AJ detailed a story in which he attempted to borrow expensive Vintage cards for his deck from the StarCityGames dealer booth. When he was rebuffed he managed to find the cards from a different dealer, then agreed to wear that dealer's shirt for the tournament despite being a paid columnist for StarCity.
When the article was published without the offending paragraph detailing the story, Sacher posted the missing portion in the forum thread attached to his piece. After some heated discussion afterwards, the article disappeared from the front page Tuesday less than 24 hours after it was published. A Facebook discussion by Sacher indicated he had been fired from StarCity for the offense, but no official word had been released on the matter by the singles retailer.
Vintage singles regularly sell for hundreds of dollars, and the Power 9, featuring the 9 most powerful cards in the history of Magic, regularly sell for thousands.
